Dinosaur Chess: Learn to Play! App Reviews

It presents a problem right in the beginning with one of the bishops which is missing for the white pieces, and makes it impossibile to complete the first lesson and go on with the course.

This is a great program. The lessons are interesting, and play levels go from easy to difficult. My 4 and 6 year olds are learning the game, and its helping novice players like my wife and I too. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to introduce their children to chess!

There is no sound on the app. Hard to learn how to play when the audio doesnt work and there are no subtitles to read. Very disappointed.

Please, make Russian language. We have this program on our computer in Russian yet and want so on iPad very much.

Huge bogus sound issues. Does not work well right away. Sound issue is major.

The game crashes every time towards the end of a game.

For an app that charges 5 bucks, its incredibly disappointing that the sound is broken. This is an app for teaching chess to kids, ad supposedly its great at that, but we wouldnt know because theres no audio. Deleting immediately.

Save your money. The Audio does not work. I did not read the reviews and bought it. Waste of time, money and memory

Great engine but the app is driven by instructions given by a dinosaur - unfortunately the sound never works - at least on my iPhone 6 - it did not work in the earlier version and does not work on this version either.

Hats off to the developers. A fun program for kids.

I have an adopted 7 year old boy with fetal alcohol syndrome. It is very hard for him to learn to play games. Checkers was very hard for him to learn. I thought that chess would be something that he would have to wait to learn. I bought this app even though there were no reviews. So glad I did! What a great teaching tool! I love the mini games that teach the directions that each piece can move. We play slowly but my son can play chess! I recommend this for anyone who wants to learn the basics of the game. This app is for beginners. Great for kids! Thank you to the developers of this app!

Makes learning chess so easy. Love the graphics and characters.

This has been fantastic for my five year old son...using this in addition to a real board and pieces has helped him immensely in understanding each of the pieces, how they move, their strengths and weaknesses...a terrific way to introduce young ones to the game without overwhelming them

Now, I am definitely pushing the limits of the app here, my son is just over 3 years old. He loves dinosaurs so I figured why not try this? He now knows all the pieces, how they move, the idea of pieces taking each other and that the goal is to checkmate the king. He absolutely loves the whole collecting dinosaurs part, though he obviously needs dads help in beating even the simple levels. Interestingly, my wife is also learning to play chess using the app. The learning certainly goes well beyond just how to move the pieces and into basic opening strategy, for instance. This was great to see. I did have to knock off a point for a few reasons, mostly related to the actual chess play and algorithms. There is no way to adjust the difficulty of the computer. The difficulty is adjusted by withholding pieces, which is great as far as it goes, but once you get an even battle against the computer its all the same. And the same is a weird mix of overlooking obvious moves one or two steps ahead and yet never making immediate blunders. Gearing a chess app for little learners seems like it would require a slightly more deft touch. Additionally, once an older child gets a basic understanding, this app has no future, as any competent chess player will trounce it with no effort. Finally, for a training app, I would love to see some options that would help visualize pieces that arent guarded, space that your opponent is covering, those kinds of things. All in all, though a great app and I hope they can address a few of my concerns in future updates.

I downloaded this app, from both the mac store and itunes for the ipad. The itunes version of the app for the ipad the board jitters when asked to identify the chess pieces. Thank You

Absolutely wonderful app for learning chess...even as an adult. They teach in little bitty snippets to make it so easy to learn. Would give this a 5 star if it didnt crash so much. It never crashed during the learning lessons, but it started crashing when I took the playing lessons, where I compete against the computer. Just when it seemed like I was about to close in for checkmate, it would crash :-( total bummer.

For three bucks, this is an excellent teaching tool. Really cool and simple games-approach to learning the basic moves in the lessons section. There are multiple levels in the play level starting with very simple board positions. Best way to use these is to have an adult sit with 5 to 8 yr olds. Well worth the money. My 5 yr old sat with me for over an hour focused on this one activity - a first! And seems to have really got the hang of the Knight moves which have been understandably difficult without this tool.

My 4.5 year old has been wanting to learn chess and it has been a bit frustrating to teach him. We got this app and He LOVES it! It makes it very fun to learn and complete the learning games before he can actually play the game. I know he will be playing in. No time thanks to dinosaur chess. Well done.

We love this app, as does our 5-year old, but we have one complaint: the game allows kids to ask for hints, and to take moves back, both of which have become crutches for our child. It should be possible for parents to turn those features off.
